Mountain biking photography in CumberlandThis weekend my Lifestyles Photography class at North Island College went to Cumberland to learn the ins and outs of mountain biking photography. If you've come to my website before, you'll have seen that I have a truckload of mountain bike photographs that I've taken during various events, like the 2013 Cobble Hill Island Cup XC race and the 2013 12 hours of Cumberland race. So you might ask, what's different about this shoot? Two things: 1) It wasn't a race; rather, it was a set-up shoot; and 2) I was working on using speedlights. All the previous events I had shot I used natural light, but now I'm coming to terms with using on-and off-camera flash in a fast-moving environment, so I'm working on expanding and refining my lighting repertoire.
During this shoot we did a bit of impromptu trail maintenance. Even in March the forests in the Comox Valley are lush and green. And what would a mountain bike ride in Cumberland be without a bit of air time? Photos from the shoot are in the North Island College gallery.
